Editorial Reviews:

One of the great heroes of the Iraq War, Staff Sergeant David Bellavia captures the brutal action and raw intensity of leading his Third Platoon, Alpha Company, into a lethally choreographed kill zone: the booby-trapped, explosive-laden houses of Fallujah's militant insurgents. Bringing to searing life the terrifying intimacy of hand-to-hand infantry combat, this stunning war memoir features an indelibly drawn cast of characters, not all of whom would make it out of the city alive, as well as chilling accounts of Bellavia's singular courage: Entering one house alone, he used every weapon at his disposal in the fight of his life against America's most implacable enemy.

Spotlight customer reviews:

Customer Rating: Summary: War in Iraq from the small unit perspective Comment: Not much I can add to the many excellent reviews of this book except to say that it was very good at conveying the difficulties and dangers that faced the infantryman in the house to house fighting in Iraq. This book had been recommended by a guest on an NPR show who was familiar with the battles the author wrote about. He said it was one of the best books he had read to convey a sense of what the soldiers faced. I can only say that it was certainly suspenseful and detailed enough to make you feel you were there.
Good read, well worth the money.
Customer Rating: Summary: If you ever wondered what it takes to be a US soilder-read this book Comment: Bellavia is the definition of bravery and uncommon courage. His memoir should be read by all who enjoy freedom so that we may appreciate its cost.
Customer Rating: Summary: Liberals? Comment: Not gonna waste much time on this, but, um... wasn't it George Bush that ordered the Marines into Fallujah and then ordered them to halt their operation and essentially be sitting ducks for the insurgents before the mission was complete?
Yeah, I thought so.
Customer Rating: Summary: WOW! Comment: That's all I could think as I read this truly superlative book.
And really all I feel I can add to everthing already said about it.
As close to being in actual combat as I ever care to feel.
David Bellavia is a true warrior.
And a superbly gifted writer.
All honor to him, and to all of his comrades.
Customer Rating: Summary: House to House Comment: This book was awesome!!!! once i started reading it was hard to put down, one of the best i have read about Fallujah, I felt like i was right there with these soldiers, I knew this battle was extremely hard fought, Urban warfare is probably one of the most brutal ways to fight in a war, face to face with your enemy, The Brave Warriors of this country are selfless hero's. Lets never forget what they have done and continue to do for all of us....
